After investigating the energy systems at Manchester-Shortsville schools, C&S recommended several upgrades to the buildings’ aging interior lighting, heating and cooling systems. An article in the Canandaigua Daily Messenger on November 5 discusses the findings of C&S and our suggested changes to the facility. The article reads:
“Jim Olcott and Ben Tashjian of Syracuse-based C&S Engineers, Inc. presented findings of a recent inspection of the school district’s buildings to the Board of Education at the Oct. 22 meeting. The inspection was done to develop a complete list of potential areas of energy reduction and facility improvement not covered by the more than $3 million capital project passed in April.
“Added up, the potential cost of the recommended updates was estimated at more than $1.7 million, of which roughly $1.3 million would be covered by New York State Education Department reimbursement. This would amount to an annual program cost of $182,324. The state would pay $128,840 of that, and C&S quoted the annual energy savings at $108,098. Added all up, Red Jacket would stand to see an annual surplus of $54,614. All cost figures were calculated assuming improvements were completed as part of a single project.
“C&S has been working with Red Jacket under its “Net Zero” program through the state Education Department under a budget capped at $100,000 per year. The first year of “Net Zero” has already been completed, while the second year is currently in the state’s approval queue.”
