Academic II building wins steel construction award

OCCAcademicII_1 OCCAcademicII_2The Onondaga Community College Academic II facility received a Merit Award in the $15 to $75 million category in the IDEAS2 (Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel) competition from the American Institute of Steel Construction. The competition recognizes projects that employ excellence and innovation in a project’s use of structural steel.

C&S provided project management, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, security, AV/communications, site/civil, and construction management for the new building, which is certified LEED Gold. Academic II is two stories, 45,000 square feet, and features a dramatic 200-foot clear span across Furnace Brook Gorge. By building across the gorge, the facility links Gordon Student Center to the east with Ferrante Hall to the west.
